An Experiment in Podcasting

The following is an experiment in podcasting. For the most part, it went horribly horribly wrong; thus, why it is appearing here and nowhere else. Word: The Unofficial TUAW Podcast 1 Sample the Web podcast.
I recorded this on a whim, avoiding getting to work grading papers, and via my Powerbook’s internal mic (thus [...]

A Take on DRM

This is a rant, albeit an interesting one if you can get past all the expletives early on:

I don’t want any of them controlling how I use the stuff I paid for. They have shown themselves to be bad stewards of their customer’s trust, more concerned with the needs of the fatcat labels than the [...]

Apple - Hot News

Crazy! One of my weekend posts at TUAW got picked up over at Apple - Hot News:

Trent Reznor’s GarageBand Release
“Trent Reznor just did one of the coolest things an artist could do,” writes C.K. Sample, III, for tuaw.com, “and he did so in a specifically Apple-centric way. He released Nine Inch Nails’ new single, The [...]

Brilliant

Read this: AdPulp: Try To Make It Real Compared To What. A snippet:

The entertainment industry’s panic attack over digital content is beyond absurd. . . . By encouraging, or at least allowing, peer-to-peer distribution of such samples, the music industry can create more fans for the music they market. These fans of the music will [...]

Ukulele

My ukulele came in today. I had to figure out how to tune it, and it is an odd tuning. May retune more like a guitar eventually. Anyway it is teeny and I like it. I’ll post some pics later if I get a chance.

Laurie, from tuaw pointed me to it.
I want that ukulele.

Coolness:

Playlist: Plantronics headset connects iPod, cell phone—Plantronics on Wednesday announced availability of the MX100-s, a stereo headset that simultaneously connects music players like Apple’s iPod and a mobile phone, enabling you to listen to music while answering phone calls.

I’ve been wanting something like this for a while.

Everybody plays guitar…

I’ve been playing guitar since I was eleven and I own a 1977 Gibson The Paul (a very good guitar which quickly became a lesser guitar in the 1978 production line). I dream of one day buying a Paul Reed Smith, but I’m also eager to see more about the MaGIC Les Paul with Ethernet:

Gizmodo [...]

Down with the RIAA!

Boing Boing: EFF helps beat RIAA in privacy for accused infringers case The court ruled in Charter’s favor yesterday, saying that just because you’ve been accused of infringement, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have the due process right to privacy until you’ve been proven guilty.

Shure e2c and e3c deals

I just returned from the Westchester Mall in White Plains, New York. If you live in the New York vicinity and you’ve been wanting some e2c or e3c earphones from Shure, but don’t want to spend the money, you should stop by the Apple Store in the Westchester. They currently have a ‘refreshed” e2c [...]

Death to DRM

Excellent argument by Cory over at Boing Boing:

Boing Boing: Cory sets DRM strawmen ablaze
The final straw-man here is about whether DRM is “too restrictive” — whether it impinges on “reasonable expectations.” But that’s not what anyone in this fight actually is arguing about. It’s about the ability of the studios to change the rules of [...]
