If this school had been around when I was of college age…

…I very well may have become a cartoonist: I Know Joe Kimpel Blog. Only downside: it’s in Vermont.
How about launching a virtual campus initiative where people can take classes online? I’d totally be down for that…

Botanical Gardens

Today, Kristin and I went to the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. There’s a whole slew of pictures here, but this is a self-portrait I took with my monopod that I particularly liked:

It was a nice day.
Here’s a nice flower photo:

And my beautiful wife:

What time is it when your tummy feels strange?

My friend, Laura, sent me this. Holy crazy Japan!

Please, Amazon…

…, I beg of you: Don’t destroy Digital Photography Review. You’ve bought them. Now give them money when they need it and leave them alone, so they can continue to do the great things they’ve been doing.

Shadow

This is what happens when I decide not to draw the other side of the face I made up in my head.
Also, I discovered the reason the program is called ArtRage. I had a much better version of this sketch about a third of the way done that was extremely detailed and which I had [...]

I opened up an ImageKind Store if anyone is interested in buying prints of any of my photographs or drawings.

Contour

One of my favorite things to do is to draw eyes and to draw exaggerated contours. This is a meld of the two that I did very quickly.

Troll

Sketched this guy in Art Rage 2 after watching several episodes of The Dresden Files back to back to back. I like the eye on the left.

D80 came today…

I’ve been playing with it on and off. More details later after I get a chance to really put it through the ringer. First impressions: the kit lens has a much better zoom than the kit lens that came with my D70. Looking through the viewfinder the image is crisper somehow than on the D70. [...]

Vector drawing with Freeverse’s lineform

I call this “Man on the Moon.” It’s my first real attempt at vector line drawing. I’ve never used Illustrator in the past, but I’ve been playing with lineform from Freeverse and decided to buy it. If you do, I recommend you spend the extra $10 or so to have them mail you a hard [...]

Nikon is sending me a D80 to play with for 6 months

Pretty cool. I just got a FedEx package with a little “Picture this…” welcome package from Nikon, inviting me to participate in a program where they send me a Nikon D80 to play with for 6 months. Here’s the details:

YES! You made it!
Nikon’s “Picture This” program is designed to give you, the blogger, the ability [...]

Bountee possibly finding the road to success

A few days ago, I complained openly about how irritated I was with Bountee’s exclusivity with a post called Bountee doomed to fail. Sometime in the wee hours last night, Steve from Bountee left the following comment on that post:

Hi CK,
It’s Steve from Bountee here - and I just wanted to say a few words [...]

Vonnegut

This is a quick sketch that I started last night and finished during my lunch break today. It’s based on the picture accompanying this article.

Face

This was created with Lineform and my tablet. Not pure sketch here. Much more like Illustrator, with line smoothing and select and copy. I did the second eye by copying the first and flipping it and angling it. Cool little program. I don’t think I’ll buy it though. We’ll see.
