The hardest part

Sometime last year, I realized I needed a workable hobby again. One that I could take with me, that has some art to it, and which I could squeeze into the tiny moments that my workday allows for such things. I decided to get a good DSLR and work on improving my photography.

I’ve for the most part left Flickr entirely and moved all my photography over to SmugMug (where I can store all my RAW files for cheap and not have to worry about crazy backup procedures) and where I have made http://photos.cksample.com point towards.

I also have a 500px account where I’ve been posting the images that—I hope—are a bit more artful than all the thousands of shots I take of Jackson non-stop.

I think I’m getting better. I’m learning a lot about lenses and have been playing around with shooting in Monochrome mode on the Nikon D7000 so the image starts as a black and white image (but with the RAW file available with all the color information if I need it). It’s fun. It’s something I enjoy doing. It is a therapy against the stress of working all day long. Small breathable moments.

I just have to be brave enough to carry my camera around like a tourist all day long and take the shot when I see it. That’s the hardest part.
