Today, Kristin has been pregnant with our child for 12 weeks and a day. We’re due on February 10th, 2010. We went in for our twelve week ultrasound earlier this afternoon and all looked well. The baby’s heartbeat was strong and loud and we could actually see him/her wiggling and moving his/her little feet and arms. I could even make out the toes! Supposedly, the baby is now officially a fetus and about the size of a lime. This is our 3rd ultrasound, and I’ve included a gallery of pictures from them below.
Thanks to everyone who has congratulated us (even the ones who poke a bit of fun as part of the act of congratulating us). We’re both overjoyed. We’ve been wanting to have a child for a while now. We think it’s going to be a boy, various relatives think it’s going to be a girl, and some Italian lady told Kristin: “You’re beautiful! It’s going to be a boy.” Evidently there’s some sort of Italian superstition that if it is a girl, the girl will rob the mother of some of her own beauty, so if you’re beautiful when you’re pregnant, it means it’s a boy. I’m not buying this superstition, but for some reason we say “he” more than “her.”
However, we’re happy with boy or girl. I did read a study somewhere that noted that daughters end up costing more money to raise (the study assumed the parents paid for the daughter’s wedding), so that fiscal burden is the only real reason that I’m leaning towards actually wanting a boy over a girl. Well, that and because we cannot agree on a girl’s name, but we have a boy’s name in mind.
We wanted to wait until after today before broadcasting to everyone that we’re having a baby, and it’s been tough. I’ve been dying to tweet and blog about every little interesting aspect of this, so get ready for a flood of information from me about all that’s going on.
Thanks again for all the congratulations!
