My good friend Ryan j Budke has been growing his hair out for the last several years for a good cause, Locks of Love, and next Wednesday, he’s finally chopping it all off in an event that the good folks at Causecast are helping him throw.
Ryan began this crazy, hair-growing journey when we were working on Netscape together, and I remember saying to him then, Cut that hair, you hippie! jokingly and that was before it grew as crazy as it currently is. You can see a particularly frightening photograph of its current state in which Ryan is posing as if he is Cousin It from The Adam’s Family on this post on the site Ryan put up for the event: TheFinalCutdown.com.
The full email that Ryan just spammed me and all his other friends with can be read below and the flier for the event is viewable by clicking on the image accompanying this post.
“Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues,
For the past several years, I’ve been growing out my hair with the intention of donating it toLocks of Love. Next Wednesday, the big day will finally arrive. On June 10th, between 4pm-7pm PST, at Christophe Salonin Beverly Hills, I’ll be cutting my hair, and I’d like to invite all of you to be my guests.
For those of you in the Los Angeles area, feel free to come on down to Christophe and join us in the festivities. There will be food, drink, and discounted salon services, with 50% of all proceeds going to Locks of Love. For those of you not in Los Angeles, we will be broadcasting the event online, with special video presentations throughout the entire 4pm-7pm PST time frame. (Don’t worry – we will have the video of the actual cut available
to rewatch after the broadcast.) We’ll also have plenty of ways for you to get involved and donate from the comfort of your home. For more information, and to check out the live video feed, make sure to keep checking TheFinalCutdown.com, our Facebook group, and Causecast.org in the coming week.I’d like to take a moment and thank the wonderful group at Causecast for helping me take something that I’ve wanted to do, and turn it into an event that will have an infinitely larger impact. If you have a cause with which you’d like to get involved and make a difference, check out Causecast.
Now, I’d like to ask a few things of you. Please pass this information on to anyone that would either enjoy it, or want to get involved. A quick forward, blog post or tweet will make all the difference in the world. I promise, this will be an entertaining event. But more importantly, this is for an amazing cause, and one I truly believe in. Finally, please find a way to get involved and make a difference in the world today, every single little bit helps.
Sincerely,
Ryan J Budke

My daughter has cut her hair twice and donated it to locks of love. I never had a problem finding the address to send it to you. I can’t seem to find the address this time. Are you still taking dontaions of hair through the mail? We have some ready to send to you. Thanks for your time…Lorrie
Hi Lorrie, I’m not affiliated with Locks of Love; I was just writing about them. If you follow the link above to their actual site you can ask them about mailing the hair.
Cheers,
C.K.
