Becoming an iPhone developer

Join me on a quixotical journey, if you will… I signed up to be an iPhone developer and I’m now beginning to teach myself how to develop for the iPhone in my free time, so that I can make a few applications. My goal is to try to have my first app out by the time iPhone OS 3.0 goes public and to, at the minimum, make back the $99 I spent on becoming an iPhone developer within the next year. We’ll see how it goes. If nothing else, it should be fun. I haven’t been doing as much hacking and scripting things as I used to, but I’ve always enjoyed digging into how things work and changing the ways things work.

From what I’ve seen of the iPhone as a platform so far, it has a very clear and powerful core that you can build things out of relatively easily, so I’m hoping it’s a good area for me to learn to code on again (as I haven’t done much coding in my time and what I have done is *extremely* rusty). Also, I already have about 6 doable ideas for applications that I could build.

So in any case, I will be posting from time to time here with the details of my experience. If nothing else, it should provide an accurate case study for “how difficult is it to teach oneself to program for the iPhone if you are a complete and total beginner?” We’ll see. Stay tuned.
