This is ridiculous:
Cheap Xenical online, 5. Maine ME Me. , Set up Tweetlater to automate a welcome response to new followersI love receiving news that I have a new follower and usually visit their Twitter profile, check out their Website and/or interests, kjøpe billig Xenical, Buy Xenical no rx, read their recent update stream, and send a hello or welcome DM, Ohio OH . Buy Xenical online, That can take a lot of time if you get a lot of new followers. So I created this message that is sent via Tweetlater to my new followers: “Wooohooo, cheapest Xenical online, Washington WA Wash. , we’re Twitter friends. Check out this video I made for you: http://budurl.com/niknik.”
via Make a Tweet Plan to Get the Most from Twitter, order Xenical online.
Here's why it's horrible: a lot of people, myself included, have DMs set to go straight to their cellphones via SMS, cheap Xenical online. παραγγείλετε online Xenical, SMS costs anywhere between $0.05 and $0.20 depending upon your rate / plan. Since I do pay as you go via AT&T on my iPhone, ordering Xenical, Xenical discount, it costs me $0.20 each time I get a DM. If you DM me right after I followed you and all you are saying is "Hey, cheap Xenical, Cheap Xenical no prescription, you're following me. Thanks!" guess what, buy Xenical pills. Cheap Xenical online, I already know that I follow you and I already knew that you followed me already, because I got that notification from Twitter via email and that little bit of redundant nothingness of information cost me $0.20. Kentucky KY Ky. , If you do that and include a video link that I cannot check from my iPhone, I'm doubly irritated, cheap Xenical online without prescription. φτηνές φαρμακείο Xenical, Also, this is a common tactic that I've noticed amongst marketers / spammers on Twitter, cheap Xenical from canada. Xenical no prescription, They follow you, you follow them back, generic Xenical, Michigan MI Mich. , they DM you to say thanks for following, and then they unfollow you, cheap Xenical no rx. Köpa Xenical, If someone sends me a DM asking a question / answering a question they have seen me ask, then that's value added and cool. If you're just DMing me to say "hey I'm DMing you" save it, please. I will unfollow people for this. I have unfollowed people for this.
HOWEVER, I think it's great advice to say publicly @cksthree thanks for the follow back! or after you've just followed me, say @cksthree I followed you because of XYZ. That both tells me what I'm doing right in terms of twittering and tells others why I may be of interest to follow, and it doesn't cost me $0.20.
Replying openly with @cksthree is 100% better than DMing in 99.99% of the cases, because if it's not private / confidential information, sharing it openly means that others can see it and benefit from it and you may just get a few more followers out of the deal when they see what you've said.

Great article with intelligent, rational, logic-based advice. Thanks for getting the idea across better than I could.
I usually DM everything to you since I think it's better to waste your time than everyone's.
… and if you find it hilarious, you still give me the via. Thanks, buddy!
Yeah, but that's you. We know each other in meatspace as well as virtually. I forgive DMs from peeps I know at a certain level. I'm talking brand new “hey nice to meet you” peeps.
I agree – it actually sounds a little patronizing. I haven't had anyone do this when I started following them.
But CK? You don't have the unlimited data plan on your cell? Really? That totally surprises me. If I paid as I went on my cell, I would be broke in a week.
I always have roll over minutes too, so I've never had to recharge the phone early. It works for me for now, if it changes down the road or if Apple comes out with a new better iPhone down the road that requires me to get on a contract, I may change it.
You mean the value of social networking is still about actually connecting with people and not about spamming? damnit! when is life gonna get easy :)
amen, c.k.! gr8 advice – i hope it's been beneficial to those who are new to twitter and think such dm'ing is good twitter business!
That's a good call. I used to DM people in response all the time, since I wanted to keep my tweets relevant to my web site content (my Twitter feed was displayed on my web site). Tweets about my interests were relevant to the web site, but tweets about “yeah, me too!” were not, so those went in a direct message. I've since relaxed a bit and rarely DM people anymore.
Oh. Sorry. I owe you 0.20.
Next time I promise I will share @openly my interesting updates such as “Hey, don't bother me with DMs, I'm short this month”.
