Spore Creature Creator won’t run on my Macbook. SRSLY?!
Really? Yeah, really. I just downloaded it and it won’t run on my 2Ghz MacBook because the integrated graphics card isn’t up to the game’s specs. And this isn’t even full-fledged Spore. It’s just the Creature Creator!
So incredibly disappointed right now….
Update: According to this TUAW post, you can modify a few files after you install and it will work. I’ll try this later tonight when I am home from work.

I’m really happy I waited for the november refresh last year, X3100 graphics are the ‘minimum’ for the game, I guess.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:20 am
i have maybe the same model of macbook as you. i just clicked ‘continue’ and it finished. when i open it, it…kind of works. it shows the spinning galaxy flawlessly and does nothing else.
June 17th, 2008 at 11:18 am
You know… I never even think of Macs having requirements.
Guess I’ll have to look when I get home. I think I have that November 2007 refresh…
June 17th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Yeah, neko, that’s the same thing that happened to me.
June 17th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
The same thing just happened to me its so gay!

TUAW has a maybe solution: http://www.tuaw.com/2008/06/17/run-spore-creature-creator-on-unsupported-gma-950-macs/
June 17th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
the TUAW solution doesn’t work on MacBooks either, you get to the galaxy screen and then it stays for ever.
Hope someone figures this out.

This sucks! I just bought my Macbook in February and Spore refuses to run on it (other than the spinning galaxy)
June 18th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Maybe you should have looked at the specs before! What I dont understand is why it wont work on the G5. It has plenty of power but the website says it will not work. Weird.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Hey mabey this will help, first off you need to have 10.5.3 running on your mac, and then and really this is just a concept…….you might have to wait more than 2 seconds for the game to start. And yes i ran the creature creator flawlessly you just have to wait like 3 minutes for it load. If you think about it…its the first time youre trying to run it, obviously its going to be a little bit slow
June 19th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
I’ll try letting it sit on my macbook……
June 20th, 2008 at 9:33 am
Didn’t work
June 26th, 2008 at 10:08 am
“Hey, lets make spore so it can run on a mac platform!”
“Good idea, but let’s tweak the game so that only the people who bought macs in the past 6 months will be able to play.”
“Thats a terrible idea, that will eliminate 90% of our market, are you crazy?”
“Yes.”

Spinning galaxy for me on my 1.83GHz Macbook. :: sigh and delete ::
July 18th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
the spinning galaxy won’t even come up for me. I can’t even install the game.
July 27th, 2008 at 2:43 pm

August 23rd, 2008 at 9:01 am
haha i bought mine for school in the beginning, and the creature creator runs perfectly. so im guessing once spore comes out i should be fine too.
August 26th, 2008 at 6:20 am
Lol you guys should have waited, but the person asking about the g5. There’s plenty of power but the game was coded for intel processors so it wont work on a g5 mac unless they go and recompile all the code. This is one of the benefits that mac moved to intel processors so it will be more compatible with programs coming out for windows.

You want to know the funny thing? I got the cd for both mac and windows, I run a macbook and the game did not work I only got the galaxy, my macbook also has xp on it so I tryed there and the game runs fine.
September 6th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
that stinks if the actual game isn’t supported on most macs. I hope it will work on my windows partion.
September 7th, 2008 at 12:37 am
Just wondering, any chance it worked on your windows partion?
September 7th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
lol diveblk… It’s odd that it’ll run in an emulated windows environment, but not natively in OS X. Disappointing indeed.
September 7th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
so does anyone have a solution? Cause it would really help me with my game not working. IS there any easy way to update my graphics card?
September 8th, 2008 at 8:13 am
Everything in Spore works on my macbook which I bought in ‘06 EXCEPT: in the creature creator i have a black screen where you add parts ‘n such so i have to eyeball it with the paint feature which works fine. If i play for say, 2 hours straight- It freezes. I have made it all the way to the space age and played for awhile but then started a new one. The game takes maybe 45 seconds to go to a black screen and then the game will start playing. I have 1GB of ram and only a 60GB HDD. Hoping that a patch will be made soon to smooth things out.
September 8th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
there are patches for WiNE that allow spore to run. i have not tested on macosx, however runs fine on a linux macbook gma950

Thats the same thing: so fucking retarded. I was in 5th grade when Spore previews came out, so I was happy when I got my October 2007 Macbook. Just a spinning galaxy… My solution: get a Macboook Pro (it comes as a birthday present in 11th grade, by then Spore will be over.) or you could just play COD2 or COD4 for mac…
September 11th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
i have installed the latest wine and spore on a macbook gma950. runs almost fine. few minor graphical glitches.
ps: CoD is rubbish
September 19th, 2008 at 10:53 am
I get the black screen at the creature creator screen as well : ( !!!!!!!!!!
September 21st, 2008 at 5:45 am
I had the same problem (black screen in the creature creator) wtf is up with that. Anyone know if there is a patch coming out (or another solution?)
thx
September 27th, 2008 at 10:58 am
The new patch for spore solves the black screen in creator when running on an older mac
September 27th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Gah… all I get is the SPORE logo start up screen and then it’s black and then I see my screen in a lower resolution, screen then goes completely black and then I get the Unexpected quit sign. Happens everytime… I don’t even get the so called spinning galaxy of death everyone keeps getting!

Guys, face it. Macs are NAFF gaming platforms. Really. Seriously.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my macbook for everything else, but my trusty PC desktop with large monitor and sh**loads of graphic power and memory just rocks for gaming. DO yourselves a favour and invest in a real gaming platform.
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:23 pm
