Regarding your comment about user generated topical widgets, we have been working on one, and it should be available very soon. Any user can either modify an existing widget, or create a new one and share it on the web. = Kunal Sen (Britannica)

Hey Omar,

Glad you liked the post. There's definitely great value in E.B., but it's just painful to click around and see that it's not fully engaged in the things that make the Internet a great medium to work in. It reminds me very much of the interactive CDs of the late 90s, where you had lots of information with videos and other media crammed onto a disk that you popped into your computer. That's great, but what's greater is if you take that same technology, open it up and link it out to everything else online.

Cheers,

C.K.

I enjoyed reading your post about your impressions on Encyclopedia Britannica. Same as you, I was accepted yesterday and since then have been getting my feet wet with it. Most of my experience has been with Wikipedia which I love.

I echo with many of your views, however, in an effort to be fair, EB impressed me greatly. I research information on Global Warming and was stunned by the amount of high-quality information I found. The graphics, illustrations, photographs, and interactive material was just awesome. Is the glass half full or half empty?

I think both sites are excellent reference sources and very useful research tools for serious writers and/or bloggers.

Just my two cens worth!

Cheers!
