MAHALO!!!
Well, I can finally say what I’ve been up to as of late. I’m the Editorial Director for Mahalo! Check it out!

This is our booth at the D. If you’re around, come check it out.
I’ll blog more about this later when I’m not busy launching a human-powered search engine!
UPDATE: Hit me with your feedback in the comments. See a top search term you think we should have that we don’t? Let me know.
UPDATE @: Check out the Press results page that our excellent guide Sara is building live over on Mahalo. She’s adding blog posts as we speak, so start blogging people!!!

Hey, Mahalo looks awesome.
One bug I stumbled upon (don’t ask why) is searching for the word “cat” seemingly from any page returns this in Camino on OSX and similar in Firefox:
http://www.mahalo.com/Special:Search?search=Chloë Sevigny&go=Search
The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.

Not that I have any reason to search for cat, but thought you’d like to know. Dog works fine.
Can’t wait to see more.

One thing I would like to see, when suggesting links maybe it could let you know if it already exists. I suggested a link and then found the same link a little later.

I love the idea of having actual human beings delivering search results, rather than outsourcing and trusting that entire research process to an algorithm. Given the right editors building these result pages, I could see easily academics and libraries getting behind this project. The lack of consistent and trusted peer review is what keeps a lot of us who teach and do academic research wary of resources like Wikipedia.
Google Scholar is already well underway, but has limitations inherent to Planet Google. A strand of Mahalo that is dedicated to academia and peer review could be very useful and fill an important need in education.
