Penguin is trying out a wiki novel. Wow. Now we get to find out what a *multitude* of bad writers working together sounds like.
I’m sorry, but while I believe in writing being a social act, I really think that any quality writing is a practice in solitude, albeit a solitude informed by someone interacting and writing with others, if that makes sense. I think the social aspects of writing, especially of writing fiction, are most powerful in the invention of ideas (great book, btw), rather than true collaborative interactive wiki writing.

The Ze Frank Show here http://www.zefrank.com/theshow/archives/2007/01/013107.html mentions the audience as being part of art as much as the creation is.
Yes, audience is part of creation, but at the end of the day, written fiction, I think, needs a focused editor and it’s very difficult to get a group to be focused in such a detailed way.
I would prefer being engaged with one mind at a time. I think a Wiki novel would be like a book from a person with multiple personality disorder.
