C|Net has a tribute page, complete with video, honoring James Kim: James Kim: 1971-2006. I didn’t know James, never met him, but several people I know did, and he did come into my home quite a bit on both TechTV and via the net. I always enjoyed his reviews. They were very human and honest with real enthusiasm for the gadgetry and without that false spin of “this is the best gadget ever!!!” that some gadget reviewers tend to slap onto everything they review. When James liked a product, you could tell it was genuine.

It’s been an odd week watching this tragedy unfold on the nightly news and online, often presented by the mainstream media to a mainstream audience as “Family missing” and “Man missing.” As tragic as the whole event has been, there’s something good to be seen in how many bloggers and members of the larger internet community as a whole, felt personally attached in some fleeting way to this event. I’m very sure that I’m one of many who upon seeing “Family missing” and “Man missing” in the media, thought: “Not ‘family’, not ‘man,’ that’s James Kim’s family! That’s James Kim!”

My thoughts and prayers are with the Kim family.
