So last night, I started totally overhauling this site. As you can see, I now am running the Dalarnas theme, which is nice and clean (albeit in Spanish; had to do quite a bit of crawling the code and translating bits here and there… let me know if you spot any missed espanol in need of translation). I discovered that the syndicated voting widget for Netscape was the culprit to my site loading so incredibly slow, as when I added it to the main page of this site, things turned back into the same slow load I was experiencing on the old design. It doesn’t slow down stories that haven’t been submitted to Netscape, but the ones that have take up to 30 seconds to load, because the widget has to query for the information re: # of votes and # of comments. Much too slow. So now all the submission tools are only on the permalink pages, and not on the front page as they had been before. I’ll add them back after I speak with the dev team and we can speed up that access.
