Observation

The class observation went well today. There was a panic moment when I and my observing guest walked into class 5 minutes before the bell and there was only one student there (usually about half the class has already arrived by five till). Fortunately, everyone who does show up did show up and only about two were late. The class went well, and I received some good pointers after class with more to come in written format on Monday.

I was surprised to find myself nervous. I thought it would be the same as any other class, but I found myself speaking a little more quickly and noticed my hand shaking slightly at the chalkboard. There was a very interesting self-critical meta-conversation going on inside my head as I went over how the students should try to avoid tangents in their writing and suddenly realized how inherently tangential most of my lectures are.
