in General, iPod

Just got an email from Guido noting that the link to iPodFolderOpener had died somewhere during the update of the site. In any case, it is fixed and working again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

No problems with getting iPodFolderOpener which I downloaded from Version Tracker.

This is a useful applescript for getting to the music part of iPod, but I am wondering if there is a way of getting to iPod’s games section? I’d like to be able to delete the games I’d prefer not to have. I know they don’t take much disk space, but they can waste a lot of my time if I play them when I should be doing something else!!

I tried changing your applescript from /music/ to /games/ but the script told me there was no such folder on the iPod.

Thanks

Oz

PS I would have emailed you rather than replying to this online forum, but I could not find your email address.

Hi, Oz,

Clicking on my pic (the one where I am coming out of the limo) in the right hand column gets you to my email. Also, if you click on the About page, the pic there is also clickable to send me an email and has my email listed within the pic. Have to avoid the spam bots….

The games are hardwired into the iPod’s firmware, so they aren’t accessible in the same way that the /Music/ folder containing all of your songs and the /iTunes/ folder containing all the temporary files used by iTunes. However, it may be hackable. Especially if you have a 3G or younger iPod. I have no idea how you would accomplish it, and I am not sure if I would want to, but the people over at the iPodLinux project have figured out how to get to the firmware and create a dual-boot linux enabled iPod with all the iPod goodness you’ve come to know and love. Presumably, you could install Linux on your iPod and then hack away at that Linux distro to remove the games. But, it isn’t yet compatible with 4G iPods.

Also, that’s a lot of work for something that you could avoid by using a little will power. ;-)
