Skype vs. Vonage: Which is better?

in General, OS X

Hey, all you Skype users out there. Why is Skype any better than iChatAV? All the people on computers whom I would audio chat with, I already chat with via iChatAV. Everyone else would be a VOIP connection from me to someone else’s landline or cell, so what, if any, are the advantages of Skype over something like Vonage or some other VOIP service? Why should I be excited about Skype 1.0 for OS X?

iChat, is for Windows only isn’t it? Skype is cross platform and interoperable on Linux, MAC, Windows and Pocket PC. You can call landlines, it will be adding voicemail, video, and SkypeIn hopefully in the next few months, so it will replace your landline for about 10 percent of the cost of a Telco.

Correction – iChat is for Mac.. (typo, oops) Vonage has more features, than Skype today, but it is rather pricey for the unlimited dialing options, IMHO.

No voicemail yet? Eh, in that case, I’m still going with Vonage as soon as they come out with their wifi capable phone.
