Rapidly Ending Semester

Working in academia, my life is partitioned into semesters. I am amazed at how quickly this current semester has flown by and how soon it all ends. The wedding seriously sidetracked my internal semester clock. Two weeks from today is the last day of the class I teach.

As a student, I have a pile of reading left to do before I can begin rewriting my dissertation proposal. The chances of getting even a rough draft of the new proposal done before the end of the semester aren’t too promising. Perhaps this weekend will be productive.

Part of me is tired of these artificial time structures on teaching and learning. It’s never enough time to fully cover what needs to be covered and so it all begins to seep into the rest of your life. I’ve never known a job that was free from this structure. I wonder what it is like…
